Short description

Win64/Straftoz.A is a trojan which tries to download other malware from the Internet. The trojan is usually a part of other malware.


When executed, the trojan copies itself into the following location:

  • %appdata%\­%existingfoldername%\­%prefix%%existingfoldernamewithoutspaces%.exe

The %prefix% is one of the following strings:

  • agent
  • ctrl
  • inst
  • install
  • mgr
  • setup
  • start
  • stp
  • sync
  • tray
  • upd
  • update
  • use
  • win
  • xpers

In order to be executed on every system start, the trojan sets the following Registry entry:

  • [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\­Software\­Microsoft\­Windows\­CurrentVersion\­Run]
    • "%prefix%%existingfoldernamewithoutspaces%" = "%appdata%\­%existingfoldername%\­%prefix%%existingfoldernamewithoutspaces%.exe"
Information stealing

The trojan collects the following information:

  • operating system version
  • malware version
  • language settings
  • computer name

The trojan attempts to send gathered information to a remote machine.

Other information

The trojan acquires data and commands from a remote computer or the Internet.

The trojan contains a URL address. The HTTP protocol is used.

It can execute the following operations:

  • download files from a remote computer and/or the Internet
  • run executable files
  • update itself to a newer version
  • uninstall itself

The trojan keeps various information in the following Registry key:

  • [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\­Software\­Microsoft\­{%variable1%}\­{%variable2%}]

A string with variable content is used instead of %variable1-2% .
