Win32/Protux.NAF installs a backdoor that can be controlled remotely.


When executed, the trojan creates the following files:

  • %system%\­wuausrv.dll (62936 B, Win32/Protux.NAF)

The trojan may create the following files:

  • %windir%\­wuausrv.dll (62936 B, Win32/Protux.NAF)
  • %systemdrive%\­Program Files\­xerox\­wuausrv.dll (62936 B, Win32/Protux.NAF)
  • %appdata%\­wuausrv.dll (62936 B, Win32/Protux.NAF)

The trojan registers itself as a system service using the following name:

  • Automatic Updates

This causes the trojan to be executed on every system start.

Other information

The trojan acquires data and commands from a remote computer or the Internet.

The trojan contains a list of (2) URLs. The HTTP protocol is used.

The trojan collects the following information:

  • network adapter information
  • computer IP address
  • user name
  • memory status
  • CPU information
  • operating system version
  • list of disk devices and their type

It may perform the following actions:

  • download files from a remote computer and/or the Internet
  • run executable files
  • send files to a remote computer
  • remove itself from the infected computer
  • various file system operations
  • send gathered information
