Short description

Win32/OnionDuke.B is a trojan which tries to download other malware from the Internet. The trojan is usually a part of other malware.


When executed, the trojan copies itself into the following location:

  • %localappdata%\­Google\­CrashReports\­GoogleCrashReport.dll

The trojan creates the following file:

  • %localappdata%\­Startup\­kb%variable%.lnk

The file is a shortcut to a malicious file.

The following Registry entry is set:

  • [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\­Software\­Microsoft\­Windows\­CurrentVersion\­Explorer\­User Shell Folders]
    • "Startup" = "%localappdata%\­Startup"

This causes the trojan to be executed on every system start.

A string with variable content is used instead of %variable% .

The trojan acquires data and commands from a remote computer or the Internet.

The trojan contains a list of (5) URLs. The HTTP protocol is used.

It can execute the following operations:

  • download files from a remote computer and/or the Internet
  • run executable files

The trojan keeps various information in the following files:

  • %localappdata%\­Google\­CrashReports\­%variable1%
  • %localappdata%\­Google\­CrashReports\­%variable2%

A string with variable content is used instead of %variable1-2% .
