Win32/CoinMiner.KX is a trojan that uses the hardware resources of the infected computer for mining the Litecoin digital currency.

Installation

The trojan is probably a part of other malware.


The trojan does not create any copies of itself.


The trojan contains the program code of the following applications:

  • Minerd

The trojan creates and runs a new thread with its own program code within the following processes:

  • explorer.exe
Information stealing

The trojan collects the following information:

  • information about the operating system and system settings

The trojan attempts to send gathered information to a remote machine.

Other information

The trojan uses the hardware resources of the infected computer for mining the Litecoin digital currency.


The trojan acquires data and commands from a remote computer or the Internet.


The trojan contains a list of URLs. The HTTP, Stratum protocol is used in the communication.


The trojan quits immediately if it is run within a debugger.


The trojan terminates its execution if it detects that it's running in a specific virtual environment.
