Short description

Win32/Bottilda.A is a trojan which tries to download other malware from the Internet.

Installation

When executed, the trojan copies itself into the following location:

  • %temp%\­csrss.exe

In order to be executed on every system start, the trojan sets the following Registry entries:

  • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\­Software\­Microsoft\­Windows\­CurrentVersion\­Run]
    • "Microsoft Windows Hosting Service" = "%temp%\­csrss.exe"
  • [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\­Software\­Microsoft\­Windows\­CurrentVersion\­Run]
    • "Microsoft Windows Hosting Service" = "%temp%\­csrss.exe"
  • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\­System\­CurrentControlSet\­Services\­Run]
    • "Windows RPC Host Service" = "%temp%\­csrss.exe"
  • [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\­System\­CurrentControlSet\­Services\­Run]
    • "Windows RPC Host Service" = "%temp%\­csrss.exe"
  • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\­Software\­Microsoft\­Windows NT\­CurrentVersion\­Winlogon]
    • "Microsoft Windows Firewall Service" = "%temp%\­csrss.exe"
  • [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\­Software\­Microsoft\­Windows NT\­CurrentVersion\­Winlogon]
    • "Microsoft Windows Firewall Service" = "%temp%\­csrss.exe"

The following Registry entries are set:

  • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\­Software\­Microsoft\­Windows\­CurrentVersion\­Policies\­Associations]
    • "DefaultFileTypeRisk" = 808464432
    • "LowRiskFileTypes" = ".exe"
  • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\­SYSTEM\­CurrentControlSet\­Services\­SharedAccess\­Parameters\­FirewallPolicy\­StnadardProfile\­AuthorizedApplications\­List]
    • "Microsoft Windows Hosting Service" = "%temp%\­csrss.exe"

After the installation is complete, the trojan deletes the original executable file.

Other information

The trojan acquires data and commands from a remote computer or the Internet.


The trojan contains a list of (3) URLs. The TCP protocol is used.


It can execute the following operations:

  • download files from a remote computer and/or the Internet
  • run executable files
  • uninstall itself

The trojan may delete the following Registry entries:

  • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\­Software\­Microsoft\­Windows\­CurrentVersion\­Run\­Microsoft Windows Hosting Service]
  • [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\­Software\­Microsoft\­Windows\­CurrentVersion\­Run\­Microsoft Windows Hosting Service]
  • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\­System\­CurrentControlSet\­Services\­Run\­Windows RPC Host Service]
  • [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\­System\­CurrentControlSet\­Services\­Run\­Windows RPC Host Service]
  • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\­Software\­Microsoft\­Windows NT\­CurrentVersion\­Winlogon\­Microsoft Windows Firewall Service]
  • [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\­Software\­Microsoft\­Windows NT\­CurrentVersion\­Winlogon\­Microsoft Windows Firewall Service]
