Short description

The trojan serves as a backdoor. It can be controlled remotely.

Installation

When executed the trojan copies itself in the following locations:

  • %appdata%\­winkept.exe
  • %temp%\­%variable%.exe
  • %temp%\­iexplorer.exe
  • %temp%\­jProtect.exe

A string with variable content is used instead of %variable% .


In order to be executed on every system start, the trojan sets the following Registry entries:

  • [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\­Software\­Microsoft\­Windows\­CurrentVersion\­Policies\­Explorer\­Run]
    • "nvsc32" = "%temp%\­%variable%.exe"
  • [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\­Software\­Microsoft\­Windows\­CurrentVersion\­Run]
    • "jProtecter" = "%appdata%\­winkept.exe"
Information stealing

The trojan collects the following information:

  • computer IP address
  • disk serial number (without spaces)
  • user name
  • computer name
  • information about the operating system and system settings
  • malware version

The trojan attempts to send gathered information to a remote machine.

Other information

The trojan acquires data and commands from a remote computer or the Internet.


The trojan contains an URL address. The HTTP protocol is used.


The trojan may execute the following commands:

  • download files from a remote computer and/or the Internet
  • run executable files
  • log keystrokes
  • perform DoS/DDoS attacks
  • send the list of running processes to a remote computer
  • send files to a remote computer
  • open a specific URL address
  • show fake alerts
  • update itself to a newer version
  • remove itself from the infected computer
  • send gathered information

The trojan may create the following files:

  • %temp%\­tmp.exe
  • %temp%\­vnlogs.log
