Short description

The trojan serves as a backdoor. It can be controlled remotely.


When executed, the trojan copies itself into the following location:

  • %localappdata%\­Google\­Update\­GoogleUpdateSvc.exe

In order to be executed on every system start, the trojan sets the following Registry entry:

  • [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\­Software\­Microsoft\­Windows\­CurrentVersion\­Run]
    • "Google Update Svc" = "%localappdata%\­Google\­Update\­GoogleUpdateSvc.exe"

The trojan creates the following files:

  • %currentfolder%\­%originalmalwarefilename%.pdf
  • %currentfolder%\­

The trojan may set the following Registry entries:

    • "Ver" = 4

After the installation is complete, the trojan deletes the original executable file.

File infection

Win32/Seey.A can infect certain file types.

The trojan searches for files with the following file extensions:

  • .docx
  • .doc
  • .pdf
  • .wpd
  • .odt
  • .pptx
  • .ppt
  • .xlsx
  • .xls

The trojan inserts a copy of itself into documents.

Information stealing

Win32/Seey.A is a trojan that steals sensitive information.

The following information is collected:

  • computer name
  • user name
  • operating system version
  • list of files/folders on a specific drive

The trojan is able to log keystrokes.

The trojan attempts to send gathered information to a remote machine.

Other information

The trojan acquires data and commands from a remote computer or the Internet.

The trojan contains a list of (7) URLs. The HTTP protocol is used.

It may perform the following actions:

  • download files from a remote computer and/or the Internet
  • send the list of files on a specific drive to a remote computer
  • send requested files
  • log keystrokes
  • send gathered information
  • update itself to a newer version
